For our final project in IDEA, we created a working clock using 3 machines in the shop. In my clock I used the 3-D printer, Vinyl Cutter, and laser. I first designed my clock structure to make on the 3-D printer, the time lapse of the build was 4.5 hours. Then I used the vinyl cutter to cutout the numbers for my clock. Lastly, I used the 3-D printer to engrave my name onto mat board to put onto my clock and the finishing touch. After I put all the pieces together, I added in the final clock piece Mrs. Proctor provided us to make our clock run.
I didn't really have much pre-planning/sketching. I thought "make clock wit the right measurements that's all you need" and honestly my clock didn't turn out that bad. I knew I was going to make a flat top, no edges or bezels. I picked out the 3 machines I would use and went to work.
I came in early and started my print to get done by my class period. My print took a total of 4 hours, 3 minutes, and 15 seconds to complete.
This is my clock in the 3-D printer.
Next, I engraved my name into a piece of mat board to put onto my clock as the name tag. For this I used the laser.
This is my mat board in the laser.
After I engraved my name, I realized I forgot to make a box around it to cut it out. So I improvised and cut it out. I think it looks very good.
This is the digital file for the vinyl cutter. The one in the shop was not working at the time, we had quite a stressful time getting our vinyl cut in time. I do no have pictures of machine cutting the numbers I printed because I used someone else's letters to finish my project on time. This was okay with Mrs. Proctor.
This is me putting my clock together in the comfort of my own home.
This is my final clock.
While creating this final project, I learned that I need to use my time more wisely. I waited too long to finish it and had to do it all the last day. Given the vinyl machine wasn't working, I could have finished earlier. I learned how to use the vinyl cutter in Mrs. Proctors room which was pretty cool. I learned time management in this rotation and it is a very valuable lesson to learn.
